About Us

Founded in 1906, Gregory Architects is a long established and well respected consultancy practice, backed by absolute professionalism, speed of response and in depth expertise gained from many years of effective and successful involvement in the Private and Public Sectors.

As a Practice we have always based our approach on developing and maintaining a strong personal contact both with the client and the Design Team. Active and Direct involvement by the partners, backed by high caliber associates and senior staff, ensures a positive commitment to all client Projects.

Gregory Architects has completed a broad spectrum of projects including commercial, housing, retail, office, hotel and leisure. The practice is committed to meeting client expectations in delivering projects within budget and time constraints to the highest quality possible.

The practice offers an accessibility auditing service to ensure that buildings comply with the principles of Universal Design and Universal Accessibility. The purposed of an access audit is to establish how well a particular building or environment performs in terms of access and ease of use by a wide range of potential users, including disabled people, and to recommend access improvements. The process involves a thorough site inspection, an assessment of the management and use of the building or environment and will should recommend access improvements, prioritise action and indicate where improvements can be made through the building’s maintenance programme and by altering management procedures.

The practice has substantial experience and expertise in carrying out building condition reports including Quinquennial Inspection Reports, Dilapidation Reports and assessment of Listed Buildings. A typical report is prepared following a detailed inspection of the property including a full photographic record, opening up of defective areas of the building fabric and testing of materials as necessary. The completed report will highlight any areas of the building considered to be defective and will make recommendations for appropriate remedial works and the ongoing maintenance of the building.

The practice has many years of experience in building conservation and has worked on a number of prestigious historic buildings such as the Grade A listed St Patrick’s Cathedral Armagh. We employ a wealth of knowledge of traditional building techniques and have established working relationships with traditional crafts people such as stained glass artists and stone masons. Our approach to building conservation embodies the principles set out by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and always adopts the principle of ‘minimal intervention’ to preserve and secure as much of the original building fabric as possible for the enjoyment of future generations. Examples of some of the conservation projects carried out by the practice can be viewed in our ‘conservation projects section’

The practice has carried out many feasibility reports for commercial, residential, educational and ecclesiastical projects. We offer expertise in carrying out detailed assessment of sites for clients to determine the most appropriate use of the site, and development potential in the context of planning and environmental constraints. Our completed feasibility report will typically include the carrying out of due diligence on the site including ascertaining boundary conditions, existing services, rights of way etc. Assessment of planning policy constraints will be carried out in conduction with a Planning Consultant as necessary and development options provided to the client for consideration along with budget costs.

Stephen Morrison is our qualified CDM Co-ordinator and member of the Association of Project Safety. The practice offers a full CDM Co-ordination service and has carried out the role of CDM Co-ordinator on many projects. Our expertise is to ensure that the client and other members of the contract team are informed of their duties under the CDM Regulations 2007, and that these duties are fulfilled. We also establish full co-operation between the members of the design and contract team, which in turn leads to the smooth running of each project.

The practice provides an in-house service for the production of high quality computer generated 3D imagery to enable our clients to fully visualise all aspects of the design proposal. We have expertise in combining 3D images of the proposed building with site photographs to provide a realistic photo-montage which is often a key tool in presenting proposals to planning service. We also provide a 3D rendering service to estate agents as an effective marketing tool in presenting proposed developments to potential tenants and purchasers. We can produce both static 3D images and video walk-throughs tailored to the client’s particular requirements.

The practice is highly experienced in providing advice to clients on the availability of grant funding and in providing assistance in applying for funding including assistance in completing forms, the provision of supporting information and project costing. We have successfully secured funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Urban Development Grant, Listed Buildings Grant and DARD Axis 3 ‘Improving the Quality of Life in Rural Areas and Diversification of the Rural Economy’.
